My Current Favourites - Part 1 : Make Up

As it's been a long time since I last blogged frequently, I thought I'd put together a couple of posts about the products I currently use the most. I'm starting off with make up and will also show you some of my nail related favourites.

First up is Chantecaille White Tiger powder which is just possibly the most luxurious face powder you can find. In the picture below it looks a little sad as the gorgeous picture's almost completely disappeared, but you can see a picture of how it used to look here (need to scroll down a little). I love this powder, it's really nice, well, I guess it had better be anyway since it cost £88! It appears to have been discontinued now, which is a shame, but luckily I have a few back ups of it.

While still on the subject of face powder, my favourite brush to apply it with has been the Guerlain Meteorites brush. This particular one is an older, limited edition one, but they're pretty much all the same except for their colour.

See what else I've been loving lately after the jump!

2012 Favourites - Part 1: Lips

As it's now a new year, I thought I'd do a recap of my favourite make up products of 2012. I'll only included products that were either newly released in 2012 or new to me, no point in me repeating myself over and over again (I still love Vaseline and Pleasureflush MSF is still my favourite highlighter, nothing new there).

So I'll start with lip products. The brand that stood out for me in 2012 when I think of new lip products was definitely Revlon. While I still love Guerlain lipsticks very much and wear them often when going out, on days when I'm staying in or not needing a bolder lip colour, I often opt for Revlon's Lip Butters. I acquired 10 of them over the course of the year and they've become my most used lip products.

They are moisturising, very comfortable to wear and some of them are absolutely gorgeous and actually pretty pigmented. On days when I don't need to wear lipstick but want something more colourful then Vaseline, I reach for these, and of course some of them double up as lipstick due to their fantastic pigmentation. Raspberry Pie, Lollipop and Sweet Tart are my absolute favourite shades. I did a full review on these Lip Butters here, so if you need any more details, check it out!

Guerlain Rouge G L'Extrait in M27 Luxure - Review and Swatches

Probably one of my very last lip product reviews for a while since I'm now on a no-buy indefinitely when it comes to lipstick and lipgloss. Today I have Guerlain Rouge G L'Extrait liquid lipstick in M27 Luxure to show you.

I have reviewed these liquid lipsticks before, so I won't be doing a lengthy review today, if you would like to, check out this post. M27 Luxure is a darker, warmer red than M25 Colere which is very much a blue based red. This is still not orangey, it's probably quite neutral as far as reds go.

I got a similar wear time out of this as I did with the other shades, around 4 hours without eating, it does disappear while eating. It doesn't feel drying on my lips, despite being matte, although there is a slight sheen to it, so it's not a true matte anyway.

Guerlain Rouge G L'Extrait lip colours cost £29.50 and you get 6 ml for your money. They are expensive and you mostly pay for the fancy case with the mirror, but the case is very nice and the lip colour inside is pretty good too.

I included a quick lipswatch at the end of the post, no full face picture though, sorry, I was not looking my best that day. The lipswatch isn't great either, it was a dark, gloomy day I'm afraid. (Also sorry about the lip fuzz.)

My Guerlain Holiday 2012 Collection Haul Part 5 - Eye and Lip Calligraphy Palette

I was going to do this review last night, but by the time I fixed up my new monitor (courtesy of a friend) and put children to bed, it was late and I was too tired. But now I have a nice new monitor, so I can get on with editing and typing at the desktop computer. I don't know why, I don't like using laptops. Maybe it's my age, haha!

Anyway, Guerlain's Eye and Lip Calligraphy Palette is a limited edition product for the holiday. It contains 2 lipsticks, 3 eyeshadows and a powder eyeliner (which you could also use as eyesahdow of course). I know some people aren't keen on having eye and lip products in the same palette and I'm not always myself, especially if the eyeshadows are very powdery as they end up in the lipstick, but this one works surprisingly well.

The eyeshadows in this palette are not at all powdery. They are soft and smooth, easy to pick up with your brush, but they aren't powdery. The lipsticks are also not very soft and sticky, so the combination of the two means that the products don't mix.

The eyeshadows were the main reason why I bought this palette (and the fact that I could pick it up on eBay for much cheaper than its retail price, you know me!), they are all so pretty. You get a very light golden beige highlighter, a copper shade, a gorgeous silvery taupe and a matte black powder eyeliner. This you can use wet as well for a more dramatic look. I have only tried it dry so far, but it works well dry too, although it's a bit on the sheer side that way. The rest of the eyeshadows are soft, buttery and nicely pigmented. The copper shade is especially amazing! The silvery taupe shade looks pretty unique to me, don't think I own anything else that colour. The highlighter is pretty, although not that unique.

The lipsticks included in this palette are a bright, dark pink and a brick red shade. I initially thought the red was very similar to Gardner Rouge G, but it's not that brown, it's mor of a cross between Gardner and Garconne. The pink shade is darker than Girly Rouge G, it actually reminds me of Mac Moxie lipstick. I did comparison swatches to the 3 Rouge G shades mentioned above. The lipsticks are not as soft and smooth as the Rouge G lipsticks and they're not very long lasting either, I only got 2 hours wear out of them, whereas Rouge G lipsticks last for 3-4 hours or even longer on me. The colours are lovely though and go really well with the eyeshadows.

I did two looks using the palette, you can see them at the bottom of this post. I apologise for the lack of close up lip swatch photos, but I have managed to develope a lovely (not!) cold sore, so I didn't want to scare you.

All in all, this is a lovely palette. I wouldn't say it's a must have, especially when you look at its retail price. It costs £54, although you do get 10.2 g of product for your money (5.6 g eyeshadows and 4.6 g lipsticks) which is a good amount. If it was cheaper, I would thoroughly recommend it, the quality is excellent.

Guerlain Fall 2012 - Rouge G de Guerlain Lipstick in 28 Genna Review and Swatches

I'd been planning on doing this review for a while, but never had time to do lip swatches and when I finally got around to taking pictures, the disappeared off my computer when I transferred them from the camera. So I had to redo them, and finally, here's the review.

Out of the 4 Rouge G lipsticks Guerlain released for the fall/autumn, I really loved Gracy which I actually ordered unseen, but I wanted to check Genna out in person because it looked like it may be too orange for me. Good news is, it isn't. It is an orangey-red, very warm, but it's definitely more red than orange. It lasted on me for about 4 hours without eating, it became more and more pink as it faded and left a nice pinky stain behind despite its orange hues which is intriguing.

Guerlain Rouge G lipsticks are my favourites, the formula is lovely, lightweight yet long lasting and the colours are usually so beautiful and flattering. They come in a heavyweight lipstick case with a flip out mirror. Rouge G lipsticks aren't refillable sadly. I haven't run out of any yet (due to having so many lipsticks), but if I do, I would love it if I could just buy a refill, otherwise the case just goes to waste.

Rouge G lipsticks cost £29.50 each and contain 3.5 g of product which is a regular amount. All 4 Rouge G lipsticks released in the fall collection are permanent additions to the Rouge G line, so you don't have to rush out to buy them all straight away.

Guerlain Fall 2012 - Rouge G L'Extrait M65 Paresse Review and Swatches

Today I have another product from the Guerlain autumn/fall collection to show you: Guerlain Rouge G L'Extrait in M65 Paresse. I actually have a tester I managed to pick up on eBay for a fiver, for more details on the actual packaging, the formula and the other three shades I have already reviewed, check out this post.

This is just a quick post to show you the colour. It's a nice medium pink, very wearable, a lot more muted than Gourmandise, so would be very suitable for work or for those who don't like bright colours. The formula was the same as the others and it lasted on me for about 4 hours, but if I ate, it tended to disappear off my lips. Very lightweight, comfortable and moisturising, even if it's not that longlasting. I experienced the same slight tackiness as I did with the others, but it's not too bad.

The price of these is the same as the regular Rouge G lipsticks, currently £29.50. For that you get 6 ml which is a rather generous amount of lipstick. Available from the usual places, including Debenhams, House of Fraser, John Lewis, etc.

Guerlain Fall 2012 - Rouge G de Guerlain Lipstick in 76 Gracy Review and Swatches

The second product I wanted to review from Guerlain's autumn/fall collection is the new Rouge G de Guerlain lipstick in 76 Gracy. So far this has to be my favourite product from the collection. I am generally a massive fan of Rouge G lipsticks, I have then in many colours. The formula is lovely, lightweight yet long lasting and the colours are usually so beautiful and flattering.

Gracy is a beautiful raspberry pink that isn't overly bright, so it is very wearable and not as intimidating as some other bright pink shades. It applies evenly and is opaque in just one swipe. It's lightweight and moisturising, but it still lasts on me for a good 3 hours or so without fading. I actually prefer this formula to the Rouge G L'Extrait as it isn't sticky at all (the Rouge G L'Extrait can feel slightly tacky) and it still lasts just as long.

You also get the same fancy lipstick case with the mirror, although Rouge G lipsticks aren't refillable sadly.

I'm planning on picking up Genna next, hopefully for free with my Debenhams Beauty Club points.

Guerlain Fall 2012 - Rouge G L'Extrait Review and Swatches

Guerlain has launched a new lip product this fall/autumn called Rouge G L'Extrait which is basically a matte liquid lipstick. According to the official description "This exceptional liquid, creamy, consistent, ultra-pigmented and velvety lip colour delivers an incredibly sophisticated make-up result. Wear it not to tease but to awaken desire! The colour becomes matt in a moment and reveals its superb qualities. Non-sticky, non-drying and non-feathering, this luxurious texture is a waking dream that lasts for hours for all women who love colour. A formula with rejuvenating and smoothing benefits that are tangible on application and over time, day after day. The Rouge G case has been reinterpreted in a sleeker version to hold this liquid texture. Pull and click...and watch the familiar double mirror gracefully open. Then, simply turn the cap to take up the colour and apply it elegantly and easily with its flocked tip."

I purchased 3 of them to try out. The shades I was most excited about are M25 Colere, M41 Envie and M71 Gourmandise. Colere is a nice blue based red, reminds me of Gigolo Rouge G. Envie is bright orangey coral. Gourmandise is bright fuchsia pink, similar to Girly Rouge G. They actually come in 7 shades and all shades are named according to the seven deadly sins. Anyway, I have now tried them all out and I have to say, I really like them. As the description says, these are liquid lipsticks that dry down to a matte finish really quickly, but despite being matte, they are actually very comfortable and not drying at all. I personally felt some stickiness and there was some colour transfer (they aren't kiss-proof), but they really didn't dry my lips and didn't feather at all. I didn't find them especially long lasting, without eating they lasted for about 4 hours, but if I ate, they tended to disappear off my lips. I don't mind this at all, but I do want to point it out because they are supposed to be long-lasting and they're not (on me anyway). The formula is really lovely and lightweight, and the colours I've tried are all opaque with just one swipe.

The case is the usual Rouge G case with the folding mirror. It doesn't feel as heavy as the original Rouge G case, although it is longer (but perhaps a bit slimmer), similar in lenght to the Noir G mascara. I don't really need the mirror most of the time, but it's a nice-to-have I guess. I believe these lipsticks are actually refillable, but I don't think the re-fills are available yet. Although part ofthe fall/autumn collection, these lipsticks are becoming part of the permanent line.

The price of these is the same as the regular Rouge G lipsticks, currently £29.50. For that you get 6 ml which is a rather generous amount of lipstick. Would I recommend them? If you're on a tight budget, unless you see a shade you really really like, they aren't that special. If you have a bigger budget, they're worth trying out as they are nice, I'm just not sure they are £29.50 nice.

My Half Price Guerlain Haul :)

I don't know what I love more, using make up or buying make up. While I love choosing what I'm going to wear each day and applying it, seeing the looks turn out nicely (or sometimes not so) and making me look better than I started out (usually), I also love the anticipation of new make up collections and buying make up so much. I think we can safely say, I'm addicted to make up, both using and buying it.

With June being a slightly slow month for new collections (didn't like the new Mac collections and I'd pretty much bought everything from the other summer collections by the beginning of the month), I was itching to spend some more money on some pretty make up. So when I heard about the sale coming up at Bentalls (a department store where my nearest Guerlain counter is), I made sure I can go there as soon as it started and check out the Guerlain sale. One of the very few high end brands to have sales, they often have discontinued or left over limited edition Guerlain products for 50% the original price. This time they actually had a lot of things, including foundations, blushes, eyeshadows and even some Cruel Gardenia highlighters (yes, I thought they were completely sold out, but clearly not). So I took the opportunity to stock up on essentials and a few nice-to-haves. Here's what I picked up:

I bought a Parure Aqua liquid foundation in 03 Beige Naturel, Parure Nuit highlighter, Rouge G in 75 Rose Barbare and Terracotta Blush & Sun blushes in 01 Sun Light and 02 Sun Kissed. (I also picked up a Parure Aqua liquid foundation in 02 Beige Clair in the John Lewis sale - not pictured. Beige Clair is my winter shade and Beige Naturel is my summer shade, and I have just run out of my bottle of Beige Clair.) As you can see, they were all half price, so I ended up saving a significant amount of money. If there's anything I like more than shopping for make up is shopping for bargains!

Want It: Guerlain Fall 2012 Collection

I always get very excited when I hear about Guerlain's upcoming collections and once again I was thrilled to see all the gorgeous products coming out this autumn/fall. It seems Guerlain fall is all about lips and cheeks. There are some brand new products as well as new shades added to existing lines (not sure exactly what is limited edition and what isn't).

The gorgeous Natalia Vodianova is once again the face of Guerlain's campaign and this time she is sporting a gorgeous red gloss. There is a new gloss called Rouge G L'Extract de Guerlain. It comes in the signature silver Guerlain G case, similar to the Rouge G lipsticks and Noir G mascara (although that case is black) with the folding mirror. I do wonder ifthe texture will be more similar to the new YSL glosses and the now discontinued Chanel Rouge Allure Laque. There will be 7 shades of these coming out this fall.

2011's Favourite Products: Part 3 - Lip and Nails

2011 was definitely the year of the lipstick for me. I purchased over 100 new lipsticks, spent a whole month wearing a different lipstick every day and really got into wearing bold, bright shades that I used to shy away from. So let's have a quick rundown of this year's favourite lipstick - in no particular order.

Guerlain Rouge G lipsticks have become one of my favourite lipsticks and this year out of them all Garconne and Girly, the two bright autumn shades were my absolutely favourites. Garconne is the most perfect red lipstick for me, and Girly is a fun bright pink shade.

Guerlain Rouge G in Girly (left) and Garconne (right)

Keep reading to see which other lipsticks made it into my favourites!

Guerlain Spring 2012 Collection - Rouge G #72 Rose Innocent Swatches and Review

Guerlain Rouge G #72 Rose Innocent is one of 4 lipsticks coming out with Guerlain's Spring 2012 Collection. It is in fact the lightest shade of the 4 and it appears to be the one Natalia Vodianova is wearing in the promo picture. The lipsticks actually have "Rose Collection" written on the outer box althoug that's not the full name of the collection.

Rose Innocent is a light bubblegum pink shade, it's semi opaque with a nice sheen, which actually makes it a lot more wearable to me. I don't really do bubblegum pink lipsticks, but I find this one suits me well. The formula is great, although this shade you isn't as long lasting as some of the other Rouge G lipsticks, I probably got 2.5-3 hours out of it which is still not bad. It's moisturising and feels very comfortable on the lips. It has a floral/rose scent which I really like, but it might not suit everyone.

You get the very heavy signature Rouge G case with a mirror included which is nice, but to me not necessary. I'd rather it was £10 cheaper and have a normal case, but Guerlain is a luxury brand, so you get luxury packaging too. You get 3.5 g which is the average lipstick size.

Rouge G lipsticks currently cost £28.50, but not sure if the price will stay the same come January (probably not). This collection also includes 3 more shades: #75 Rose Barbare, #74 Rose Piquant, #73 Rose Ensoleillé, and I'm really looking forward to buying them as soon as I can.

For now, see more pictures of Rose Innocent including arm and lip swatches and a FOTD!

Guerlain Spring 2012 Collection - Ecrin 4 Couleurs 12 Les Aqua Swatches and Review

There will be two 4 colour eyeshadow palettes as well as one 6 colour eyeshadow palette released with the Guerlain's Spring 2012 Collection and I have #12 Les Aqua to show you today.

As the name shows, this palette contains blues and greens. You get a silvery white highlighter, a turquoise shade, a teal-blue colour as well as a grey shade with subtle blue shimmer. The highlighter is quite frosty, so might be better for inner corner rather than brow bone highlighting. The teal and turquoise shades are a lot less frosty, mainly just shimmery, but not glittery, the teal especially has a lovely sheen. The grey shade is quite matte but it has some very fine blue shimmers that are more apparent in the pan than in swatches. I haven't worn them yet, I only just received the palette yesterday and this morning was too manic for complicated make up looks, but from past experience Guerlain eyeshadows are very smooth, long lasting, they don't crease or fade. These shades are all well pigmented based on the swatches.

If you thought this was similar to the Holiday 2011 palette #10 Les Ombres de Nuit then you're not wrong, however these shades are definitely lighter and less frosty (except for the highlighter shade). I've included a side-by-side comparison photo and swatches at the end of this post, be sure to scroll all the way down. There's also a blue palette that I don't own which could be similar, but that doesn't have a highlighter shade.

The palette is the same as all the other 4 colour palettes, housed in a gold coloured shiny compact, you have a mirror in the lid and a double ended applicator is included too. You get 7.2 g which is pretty good and these retail for £37 at the moment, but I'm pretty sure it'll be more come January.

Guerlain Spring 2012 Collection - Meteorites Cruel Gardenia Highlighter Swatches and Review

The star item of Guerlain's upcoming Spring 2012 Collection has to be the new Meteorites Cruel Gardenia Illuminating Iridescent Powder. It is so beautiful to look at and it is absolutely gorgeous on as well. Unfortunately mine arrived slightly dented, but I'm actually grateful for this, because I often don't use pretty powders like this because I don't want to ruin the design, however this is already messed up, so I dived right in. And I'm really happy I did, because I discovered a gorgeous highlighter. I still might buy a second one just for the design though.

The powder comes in the usual black outside packaging, and the compact has the same flower pattern as all the Meteorites. The compact is actually the same as the Poudre de Perles Illuminating Perfecting Pressed Powder's (which you can see at the bottom of this post). It's basically a plastic cylinder shape with screw off top. It is a bit bulky and you don't get a mirror in it either, so it's definitely not the most luxurious or best Guerlain designs, but what counts is what's inside.

And what is inside is a gorgeous flower shaped pearly pink highlighter. The powder is domed and it's beautifully crafted, a real masterpiece. It looks quite frosty, but it is certainly not shimmery and once applied it gives a lovely sheen. It gives enough colour to be used as a subtle blush on lighter skintones, otherwise it makes a lovely pink highlighter. In the pictures below I'm wearing it on top of Mac Azalea Blossom Blush Ombre, but today I've applied it as a blush and it shows up pretty well (I'm a light medium in Mac MSF Natural, I'm guessing that's an NC/W 20-ish). There is no overspray on the powder, so what you see is what you get. It actually feels a bit like a cream highlighter, although it's definitely a powder, but not powdery at all, if you know what I mean. Unlike regular Meteorites it has no scent as far as I'm aware.

I know a few people have noticed that the design looks suspiciously similar to the new Laura Mercier Rose Rendezvous face illuminator, but I have swatched them both and they are actually very different. The Laura Mercier one is darker and more bronze, whereas the Guerlain one is lighter and definitely pink, not bronze. You can see comparison pictures at the bottom of the post.

You get 9 g of powder and I suspect the price will be in the region of £33-35, but I don't know yet as I bought mine from eBay. EDIT: It will retail for £41 - ouch! I believe the collection will be available in January, but again, not sure exactly when.

Want It! Guerlain Spring 2012 Collection - Les Roses Et Le Noir

I know, I know, it's not even winter yet and I'm already talking about spring collections, but of course as we all know, cosmetic companies bring out their collections very early into the previous season. Guerlain's spring collection is due to be released mid-January and the official photos have already appeared on the internet.

My first impression of the collection: love it and want everything! You think I'm joking? Come January you will see my haul review post, and find that I am serious. It's all so pretty and very springlike. The promo picture, as usual, features the gorgeous Natalia Vodianova. The star item of the collection is the flower shaped highlighter / iridescent illuminating powder, Meteorites Cruel Gardenia. It is just absolutely stunning.

Guerlain is also releasing a new mascara, Noir G de Guerlain that comes with the same compact as the Rouge G de Guerlain lipsticks and is refillable. It looks wonderful and I will definitely give it a go, especially as one of my most favourite mascaras is from Guerlain (Le 2 Mascaras).

Other products in the collection include 2 new 4 colour eyeshadow palettes, Les Aquas and Les Roses, and a new 6 colour eyeshadow palette, Tailored Harmonies, 4 new shades of Rouge G lipsticks, 75 Rose Barbare, 74 Rose Piquant, 73 Rose Ensoleillé, 72 Rose Innocent, and 4 new KissKiss lipglosses.

They are all so pretty and I can't wait to get my hands on them. January cannot come soon enough (although I am rather looking forward to Christmas in the meantime, so it's all good). Are you interested in anything from thsi collection? Let me know in the comments!

Guerlain Rouge G Lipstick 26 Gardner Swatches And Review

As promied here's my review of the new limited editon (although I'm not entire sure if it is, please correct me if it's not) Guerlain Rouge G lipstick in 26 Gardner from the Guerlain holiday 2011 collection. I have to admit, at first I wasn't too interested in this lipstick (well, at first I didn't even know this was part of the holiday collection actually). I prefer my blue based reds and this is more of a brown-red/brick red shade, but it has really suprised me because it actually looks really nice on me.

It has the usual great Rouge G formula, it's really creamy, pigmented and long-lasting, and of course comes in the wonderful Rouge G case. I have reviewed many of these lipsticks, so I won't bang on about this, just show you some swatches and let you make up your mind. In the swatches below I only swiped it once on my arm, so you can see how pigmented it is. Although it didn't last through lunch, but without eating and drinking it lasted for a good 4 hours on me.

I do need to mention the price though as sadly it is very high at £28.50 (ouch!), but you really do get a very luxurious product for your money. Also with a long-lasting lipstick like this, you don't need to touch up too often, so shouldn't be afraid of using up your lipstick too quickly. But still, £28.50 is a lot of money for one lipstick, so that's definitely a negative. But it is the only one I can think of, and I still love Rouge G lipsticks very much.

FOTD: Guerlain Fall 2011 Collection

Here's the look I did with my new Guerlain fall 2011 products, in fact I also wore Guerlain foundation, mascara, blush and setting powder/complexion highlighter but that's mostly just because I love Guerlain products. :) In most pictures I'm wearing Rouge G in 71 Girly, but I included a picture at the bottom wearing 25 Garconne as well. (I did take that one with a slightly different camera setting, hence the cooler colours, but it's the same look.) Hope you like it.

To create this look I used the following products:

Eyes:
Barbara Daly (Tesco) Eyeshadow Primer
Guerlain 4 Colour Eyeshadow Palette 08 Les Perles light pink colour on inner half of lid
Guerlain 4 Colour Eyeshadow Palette 08 Les Perles grey/taupe colour on outer half of lid
