Roses Ultimes de Chanel Haul and Swatches

Chanel has a new collection out with Glossimers and nail polishes, so I of course had to check it out and here's what I ended up with:

I got Le Crayon Levres lipliner in 49 Rose Corail, Le Vernis nail polish in 541 Tentation and 3 Levres Scillianted glossimers in 166 Amour, 168 Desir and 169 Jalouse. Now I'm not too sure if any of these are at all limited edition, I believe they're not, but I might be wrong. There are actually 6 glossimers and 4 nail polishes in the collection, but I was very restrained and only got these. The other shades were much lighter and less pigmented. I especially love Jalouse, it's such a gorgeous shade of fuchsia pink, and Tentation is what I imagined Rouge Carat nail polish (holiday 2011) to be like. Rouge Carat is red with fuchsia sparkles whereas Tentation is fuchsia itself. I haven't worn it yet, but it looks gorgeous in the bottle.

I also picked up Rose Corail lipliner which is not part of the collection, but the lady in front of me was getting some lipliners as well and a few were on the counter... and somehow I ended up with this one. It's a very pretty coral pink, darker than Mac Shore Leave prolongwear lip pencil, but has a similar texture. I wore it under Amour glossimer and it was lovely.

The lip pencil is £17.50 and you get 1 g which is slightly less than Mac prolongwear lip pencils (but it comes with a free pencil sharpener), the glossimers are £20 and you get 5.5 g (not sure how many ml that is), and the nail polish is £17.50 and you get 13 ml for your money. So yeah, not cheap. But then this is Chanel.

L'Occitane Pivoine Delicate Hand Cream

My last L'Occitane review (for a while anyway) is for the Pivoine Delicate Hand Cream. Also launched as part of the Pivoine Delicate collection for spring 2012, and comes in the same pretty flowery packaging as the rest of the collection.

The hand cream has the same peony scent as the fragrance, but it's not too strong and fades away quite quickly. The cream is lightweight, non-greasy and gets absorbed quickly. At the moment my hands are not dry, but they can always do with a bit of moisture, and this product does that nicely. It's a very nice hand cream and I'll be happy to use it all up. You get 75 ml for £14 which is a bit too high for me for a hand cream, I kind of draw the line at £10.

There is one more thing I'm not too keen on and that's the packaging. The cream comes in a squeezy tube and the cap of the tube isn't removable, but has a small hole in it and by twisting the cap you open and close the hole. When you squeeze the cream out, you can get it all over the cap if you're not careful, plus when you twist to close, a bit more cream escapes. Since I prefer storing it standing up on the cap, this can result in quite a bit of mess, so I've decided to keep the sticky label on the opening (that it came with) to avoid getting the cream everywhere. Other than that it's a lovely product.

L'Occitane Pivoine Delicate Eau De Toilette

First of all, I'd like to point out that I'm rubbish at describing scents, and that is why I don't normally do fragrance reviews. But since I was sent the new Pivoine Delicate Eau de Toilette from L'Occitane's new spring collection of the same name, I thought I'd give it a go.

I can describe the packaging, it's very pretty, pink and feminine. All the products I was sent from this collection have the lovely peony flower detail on the outer packaging. On the inside, a fairly simple glass bottle with pretty pink fragrance inside it. Now for the fragrance. I think it's best if I copy what it says on the (tin) box:

And that's pretty much spot on. A delicate flowery fragrance that after a while smells a little soapy on me. It's quite nice, not offensive, and despite being quite delicate, lingers on for most of the day. I'd say it would make a lovely spring daytime fragrance if you like roses and peonies. For me it's just a little too powdery, but fragrance is so personal, that is why I don't really like reviewing it.

You get 75 ml for £35 which isn't too bad, it's the same as L'Occitane's Pivoine Flora EDT. It should be available soon on the L'Occitane website and in stores.

L'Occitane Pivoine Delicate Lipstick Review and Swatches

As I told you earlier, I've received some products from the new Pivoine Delicate collection by L'Occitane. First up is one of the lipsticks, this is shade 2, Pivoine Delicate.

Don't you just love the packaging? So pretty. Both the outer box and the tube itself have the gorgeous peony flower details, all very pink and girly. The lipstick itself is a pinky beige shade with some very fine shimmer. The colour is hardly noticable when applied, it is very sheer, almost just adds sheen rather than colour. You will see swatches below, those were taken after I swiped 10 times! The listick has a subtle flowery scent (peony) which I don't find too overpowering, but it's definitely there, so if you don't like your lip products scented, then this isn't for you.

Would I buy this lipstick myself? No, I wouldn't. It's just too sheer for my liking and it disappears completely after about an hour. £12.50 is just too much to spend on a lipstick that is hardly noticable and needs reapplying every hour. I would rather buy a Revlon Lip Butter to be honest. Maybe the other shades are more pigmented, I don't know, but this one certainly isn't.

L'Occitane Pivoine Delicate Collection for Spring

Launching this April is L'Occitane's new collection Pivoine Delicate and it has some lovely products. The collection is made up of two parts: fragrance collection and make up collection.

The fragrance collection contains Pivoine Delicate Eau de Toilette (75 ml / £33), Fresh Mist (50 ml / £13), Hand Cream (75 ml / £13), Shimmering Powder (8 g / £22) and Eau de Toilette and Gloss Duo (2 x 5.5 ml / £14).

The make up collection contains 3 Lipshines (8 ml / £11.50 each) and 3 Lipsticks (3.5 g / £12.50).

I was sent a few products to try out including the Eau de Toilette, the handcream and a lipstick, so I will be reviewing them over the next few days. For now I leave you with a picture. I just love the packaging of these, don't you?

Bobbi Brown Rose Gold and Wild Rose Shimmer Bricks Review and Swatches

I've got the two newest Bobbi Brown shimmer bricks to show you from the Rose Gold collection. They are called Wild Rose and Rose Gold and I was especially excited about Wild Rose, it's such a pretty one. As I collect Bobbi Brown shimmer bricks and own all that have been released (you can check out my collection in this rather old post - it shows all of them except for the Party shimmer brick that came out for last Christmas), of course I had to buy both of them.

I do like both of them, but Rose Gold works more of a highlighter on me whereas Wild Rose I can use as blush. They both have a metallic sheen, but they are not glittery. If used lightly, they give nice highlight, and even a more heavier application of Wild Rose didn't look too shimmery on me. On a darker skintone both would be highlighters rather than blushes. Of course they can also be used as eyeshadows. I swatched the shades separately with my finger and also blended together with a brush, so you can see the colours and the sheen properly.

Rose Gold is definitely the warmer one of the two, whereas Wild Rose is a cooler pink. It reminds me of Rose shimmer brick without the white stripe. Rose Gold reminds me of Nectar shimmer brick, but lighter. Nectar works as a blush on me, but Rose Gold doesn't really.

You get 10.3 g with both of these and they cost £30.50 each. These are limited edition, so if you like them, get them while you can.

Guerlain Shine Automatique Lipstick #200 Sous Le Vent Review and Swatches

I have been looking forward to the new Guerlain Shine Automatique lipsticks and finally I've managed to get my hands on one of the shades, 200 Sous Le Vent. It's a pretty shimmery nude shade, although it probably wouldn't have been mine personal choice of shade, I'm more interested in the pinks and reds, but since this was available on eBay for under half the retail price, I thought might as well get it and see what I think.

 

I do like it actually. The formula is lovely, very lightweight, moisturising and surprisingly long lasting considering how light it is. It stayed on my lips for about 2.5 to 3 hours with minimal drinking, although it was a little hard to judge when it disappeared, because it's really not very pigmented. It does give a lovely shine to the lips and feels very comfortable, so for days when you don't want to look like your wearing much make up, this is perfect. It does have a slight shimmer to it, but it's definitely not gritty at all. It also has a slight sweet scent, not flowery like some of the Guerlain lipsticks nor does it smell of parma violets like the Meteorites. It's quite nice and unoffensive to me.

You get 3.5 g for your money (which I believe will be £24.50 once it's launched in shops sometime very soon) which is your regular lipstick weight. The tube is the same as the regular Rouge Automatiques, the lipstick pops up when you push the slider down. The packaging is lightweight and not too bulky, so you can carry it around happily (not like the Rouge G lipsticks that weigh a ton!). I can't wait to try out the brighter shades, I am well impressed with this lipstick.

My Mac In Extra Dimension Haul Pictures and Swatches

I was very excited about this collection when I first heard about it and as I thought I would, I ended up buying nearly everything. The only things I didn't buy were the brushes and 3 eyeshadows: the black one because I don't really use black eyeshadows, the silver one because it's very similar to the Estee Lauder silver Cyber Eyes eyeshadow and the brown/bronze one because again, I don't use that much brown. The rest I just had to have.

I would like to point out that I haven't actually used any of these as I wanted to wait until I can photograph them which I finally managed to do yesterday, so I can't really report on wear time, etc. I have only swatched them on my arm, so I can only comment on that. The texture of these eyeshadows is very similar to the Barbara Daly ones I've reviewed here and here, they also look suspiciously similar. They are definitely powder shadows, but they also feel creamy and they're wonderfully smooth. My favourites are definitely the purples, although they are all really pretty. I'm a bit sad there weren't some more interesting shades like green, yellow, fuschia, etc., but what can you do?

The skinfinishes are even creamier and very smooth. I swatched them heavily and then blended them out with my finger and they are very blendable. They are also very frosty, so you need to use them sparingly, unless you are going for a sexy cyber woman look.

The eyeshadows cost £16.50 each and you get 2 g, the skinfinishes are £21.50 each and they're 9 g each, much like the regular mineralize skinfinishes. Most of these are still in stock on the Mac website except for Whisper of Gilt and Superb skinfinishes. Debenhams is almost entirily sold out, but then they did have a 10% off and 500 bonus points event.

Stila In The Moment Eyeshadow Palette Review and Swatches

Another day, another Stila palette. This is practically the same as the In The Garden palette, only it's purple. Okay, it's not the same, but very similar, it has the same issues (no mirror, useless quote from someone I don't know or care about for that matter) and it also contains 10 eyeshadows, a smudge stick eyeliner and a booklet.

Let's just talk about the colours rather than repeating everything I said about the In The Garden palette, shall we? This time we only have one matte (Desire) which is the same disappear-on-my-skintone shade as Nectar in the other palette, perhaps a bit pinker. It's pretty, but not very interesting. I do love the other shades very much, love it that there's several purples in the palette as well as a few neutrals. Glance (middle one on the top row) is a beautiful midtone purple with a subtle sheen, probably my most favourite shade in the palette. I also love Catalyst (top row, far right) which is a blackened purple with purple shimmer (think Mac Young Punk mineralize eyeshadow) and looks beautiful as a liner. I'm sporting it on my top lashline as I type. Instinct is a nice, although rather frosty highlighter shade. My least favourite is probably Improvise, a satiny plum colour that hasn't got a very good colour payoff and looks rather dull blended out. Perhaps this one will work better wet. Otherwise I'm happy with this palette, for me it's the nicer of the two Stila spring palettes.

Once again you get a full size smudge stick as well, this time it's Tetra, a dark purple one with purple shimmer. It compliments the purple shades well, although not sure how it would work with the shades in the bottom row. A more plumy eyeliner would work better with those I think.

Just like the In The Garden palette this costs £25 and you get 14 g of eyeshadows and 0.28 g of eyeliner. Available from BeautyBay, although I bought mine on eBay because I wasn't sure whether we were getting this.

Stila In The Garden Eyeshadow Palette Review and Swatches

One of the Stila spring palettes I've purchased is the In The Garden palette. It is a very similar style to the Naturaleyes palette that I reviewed a few months ago. You get 10 eyeshadows (out of which 2 are matte) and a full size smudge stick eyeliner for £25. You also get a booklet with some suggestions for looks you can create. 

The eyeshadows are nicely pigmented, some better than others, but it tends to be that the frostier shades are the most pigmented. The two matte shades are alright, not chalky at all. The darker of the two (Nectar) is pretty much the same as my skin colour and doesn't really who up on me. The darker shades are more satiny than frosty except for Moss which is a really lovely dirty brown colour with gold flecks. There aren't really any true highlighters in this palette (I don't like highlighting with matte eyeshadows), but other than that it's a nice palette. The smudge stick eyeliner you get is in the shade Starfish which is a mossy green colour with gold shimmer. It is supposed to be waterproof and it does stay on through the whole day, once it's set, it's very hard to remove (make up remover does remove it easily though).

I did a look with Breeze, Sage and Moss, plus Starfish smudge stick and it was very pretty, the shadows applied and blended easily and everything stayed in place all day (used them over my trusty Barbara Daly eyeshadow primer). 

The palette is still lacking a mirror in the lid and it has yet another quote from Sarah Lucero whoever she might be (I need to look her up!). Otherwise it's a nice palette, although not as bright and spring like as I would have expected. For £25 you get 14 g of eyeshadows and 0.28 g of smudge stick eyeliner.

Stila Spring 2012 Collection Haul

This spring Stila has come out with a lot of pretty stuff. As well as some new Jewel eyeshadows, Sparkle Luxe glosses and Smudge Crayons, they also released two lovely eyeshadow palettes and a gorgeous blush. I haven't got any of the above mentioned goodies because I really want to go to a Stila counter and have a good swatching session, and unfortunately there aren't any near me. But I did pick up the two eyeshadow palettes and the gorgeous Love At First Blush.

The two eyeshadow palettes are In The Garden (green) and In The Moment (purple). I actually thought we may not get the purple one as I think it was a Sephora exclusive in the US, so I bought it on eBay, whereas I ordered the other two from BeautyBay. The palettes cost £25 each and the blush costs £12 (for 6.2 g which is actually a brilliant price I think).

I will post swatches or rather I will do proper reviews of both palettes soon. For the blush, I'm not sure if I'll be able to ruin it by using it (weird, I know), but I was brave and swatched it, and you can see the swatches at the bottom of this post.

17 Spring Collection Spring Fling Eyeshadow Palettes and Lasting Fix Nail Polishes

I love spring collections, especially when they have pretty colours and patterns, don't you? So for me the 17 spring collection was everything I could've asked for. As well as two gorgeous flowery eyeshadow palettes (remind you a bit of Dior, do they?) there are 4 nail polishes in lovely bright sunny spring shades.



First up are the two eyeshadow palettes, Spring Brights and Hazy Days. Just look at that lovely packaging! It's a shame though that the compacts themselves don't have the same flowery patterns (they're just light pink colour with the words written on them, a missed opportunity if I may say so. The inside of the compacts of course are what matters and they are beautiful. Both consist of 4 colours each arranged in a flowery pattern. Spring Brights includes a matte baby pink, a shimmery light lilac, a shimmery sunny yellow and a shimmery warm yellow-brown (yeah I know, I suck at describing colours). In Hazy Days all four shades are shimmery, a pretty grass green, a light beige, a light brown and a darker chocolate brown.

Some of the sections are very small and practically impossible to get your brush into, but all colours have a bigger patch where you can pick them up easily from. In my opinion there's just a bit too much brown, and I don't think the colours in Spring Brights work particularly well together, the brown and yellow shades do and the pink and purple do, but not so much all 4. I would've liked to see a lighter yellow and perhaps a darker pink or maybe a blue shade in there instead of the brown. The quality of the eyeshadows is good though and at the price (£5.99 each) they are a good buy. You get 7.5 g in each palette which is great.

Spring Petals, Juicy, Mellow Yellow, Glisten

There are also 4 Lasting Fix nail polishes in the spring collection and they all come in lovely spring shades. Spring Petal is a lovely pink with subtle shimmer, Juicy is a gorgeous lime green with subtle shimmer, Mellow Yellow is a sunny yellow with subtle shimmer and Glisten is a shimmery metallic pinky bronze (I think Glisten isn't a new shade actually, but I might be wrong). They are all quite runny and all took 3 coats to look opaque, although Juicy still wasn't quite there even then. I found them hard to apply because of the runny formula, hence the messy application. I created a colourful springtime manicure with them that you'll see at the bottom of the post (reminded me of mini chocolate eggs in colourful wrappers). Spring Petal chipped on me first (after about a day) and Glisten actually lasted for 3 days without chipping, but I need to add that Spring Petal was on my index fingers which always chip first and Glisten was on my little fingers which always chip last. I won't say they're long lasting, but 3 days is actually pretty good for me. They cost £2.99 and you get 8 ml.

There is also a 3 for 2 offer at Boots right now, so you can buy 3 of these for just under 6 quid! Or get the eyeshadow palettes and pick up a nail polish for free!

My Mac Haul Part 3 - Marcel Wanders and another cheeky purchase from Too Supreme

The package with the third installment of my Mac haul arrived yesterday (I ordered these directly from Mac as the Marcel Wanders collection is Mac exclusive) and I've already managed to take photos, crop and watermark them, so here you go!

As you can see, more lip products. I love lipsticks, what can I do? I got Inez lipstick and Kim lipglass from the Marcel Wanders collection and picked up another Sheen Supreme lipglass in Mango Sheen because I really wanted it having swatched it at the counter last week. The verdict? I love them all. My favourite one is possibly Inez lipstick, but I love the formula of the Sheen Supreme lipglass so much too. Having said that, Kim lipglass has a lovely texture too, it's not sticky like your usual Mac lipglasses. Very happy with them all. Less happy with the prices, the Marcel Wanders lipsticks are £17.50 and both lipglasses are £16.50. I'd love to say you get more products than the regular Mac lipglasses, but you actually get a lot less. The lipstick is marginally bigger though.

My Mac Haul Part 2 - Vera Collection

So as promised here's my Mac haul post part 2. (Missed part 1? Check it out here!) The Vera collection was the one I was most excited about with its pretty powders and colourful pigment stacks. There's also a bunch of lovely Pearlglides and Plushglasses, plus some nail polishes in the collection, but I didn't get those because I already have most of the Pearlgides, I am okay for sheer lipglosses for the next decade or so and I don't like cream finish nail polishes.

I did get all 3 Crushed Metallic Pigment stacks and both Pearlmatte Face Powders though and they are all so pretty. I haven't actually used any of them, but I have swatched the pigments and I'm pretty impressed. Quality wise Aloha is the best, all 4 pigments are really smooth and the colours are gorgeous too. I also love the colour in Strawberry Patch and the pigments are quite smooth, not as smooth as the ones in Aloha, but still pretty nice. The worst quality of the 3 stacks is Butterfly Party, much chunkier and harder to blend, but the colours in it are so pretty, I can forgive it.

I have to admit, I have not even swatched the powders. I'm sorry, they are just too pretty. I will - eventually - but not just yet. Yeah I know...

Another thing I wasn't too impressed with was the price increase. The pigment stacks are now £25.50 and the powders are £21.50. Ouch! Did you get anything from this collection? Let me know in the comments!

My Mac Haul Part 1 - Chenman, Shop Mac, Viva Glam, Too Supreme

This month Mac has released an unbelievable number of collection - to be precise: 9! Except for one (Zoom Waterfast Lash Mascara), all other collections contain lots of products: lipsticks, lipglasses, eyeshadows, eyeliners, lipliners, the lot. So many things to choose from! So it won't come as a surprise that I actually had to divide my haul post into 3 parts! Mostly 3 parts because I still have a few things on the way (couple of them you could only order directly from Mac), but also because there's just so much stuff. 

In this first part I'm going to show you my purchases from the Chenman, Shop Mac, Viva Glam and Too Supreme collection. I mostly got lip products, but I also picked up a mineralize eyeshadow duo. I'm really into bright lipsticks at the moment, and 3 of the lipsticks I bought are actually very similar and very bright. I wasn't too sure if I wanted to get Pink Union mineralize eyeshadow duo because it reminded me of the Odd Couple duo, but the melange side of it is actuall quite different in that it's more lilac than copper, and it's ever so pretty!

I haven't actually worn all of these products, the only one I've worn is the Sheen Supreme lipglass. I have to say, I am very impressed with it, I really like the texture (smooth and comfortable to wear) and the colour (I got Imperial Red and have ordered Mango Sheen since then). It's in a new style clickable pen packaging which is also pretty nice and convenient. The only problem is you get quite a bit less product (about half of the regular lipglass). I did swatch everything though, so be sure to read all the way to the end.

FOTD: Chanel Eclosion Eyeshadow Quad

I've been meaning to post this look that I did using my new Chanel Eclosion eyeshadow quad. I really liked this look, it's nice and neutral but with a bit of a kick. I personally love the glittery highlighter shade and also the mauvy plum shade.

To create this look I used the following products:

Want It: Mac In Extra Dimension Collection May 2012

I always get excited when new collections with pretty powders and palettes are released (see my recent post on the new Chantecaille palette) and it's no different when it comes to Mac's upcoming In Extra Dimension collection. Due out in May the collection includes 3 new Extra Dimension Skinfinishes and 10 new Extra Dimension Eyeshadows. The formula of these is supposed to be similar to Estee Lauder Cyber Eyes eyeshadows and gelee powders (Modern Mercury and lately Topaz Chameleon) which are all lovely, so no wonder I'm excited about these!

And if you're thinking you might have seen the design somewhere, you're not wrong! Do you remember these Barbara Daly Satin Swirl Eyeshadows? Similar pattern without the "Mac" bit obviously. (I actually have the Barbara Daly shadows in 3 more shades - must review them soon!)

Anyway, the skinfishes and eyeshadows come in the following shades:

To be honest I would've liked to see some more fun shades, greens and yellows perhaps, since a few of these colours are really similar to the Estee Lauder Cyber Eyes eyeshadows.  But I'm still looking forward to trying these out and I'll probably end up with a good few of them.

Want It: Chantecaille Coral Reefs Palette For Spring 2012

You know how much I love my pretty Chantecaille palettes and powders. So it won't be a big surprise to learn that I really want to get my hands on Chantecaille's new palette for the spring. Isn't it just gorgeous?

It contains 3 eyeshadows in Pink Pearl, Reef, Driftwood and a cheek shade in Coral, and they all have the same coral design with gold overspray. The design is in fact the same as the Coral face highlighter that was released a few years ago. You can see pictures of it here (together with the rest of my collection of pretty powders and palettes).

Chantecaille is donating 5 percent of the proceeds to the Marine Conservation Institute in an effort to protect 10% of the world’s oceans by 2020. This is now available from the Chantecaille website and will hopefully come to the UK soon. It costs $79, so I expect it to be around £75. Unfortunately Chantecaille products seem to have an awfully big mark up in the UK compared to the US, which is really not fair on us. I'm hoping to pick this up from eBay as I usually do.

FOTD: Guerlain 66 Boulevard du Montparnasse

This is the look I created with the Guerlain 6 colour palette 66 Boulevard du Montparnasse. I think it's a really lovely palette and you can create soft and more dramatic looks depending on what you want to do.I didn't like the gloss with this look, but since I'd already applied it, I left it, but I think something more pink would have looked nicer.

My Chanel Spring Collection Haul Part 4 - Les 4 Ombres Quadra Eye Shadow 34 Eclosion - Review and Swatches

Here's the last product I got from the Chanel Spring Collection, possibly the one I was most excited about actually (although Blush Horizon is another beauty for sure!).

I really like and have a big collection of Chanel eyeshadows, mostly quads, and any new additions are always welcome. Eclosion is a nice neutral palette with a kick of colour and a bit of added shimmer. I like quads because you can usually create a look using all 4 eyeshadows, or even just one or two depending on what look you're after. The European style (round pan) eyeshadows are baked, so they can be used dry or wet, and using them wet will give them more intensity. The shadows in this quad are well pigmented, except for the lightest, glittery shade which mostly just delivers a fair amount of shimmer, but it is oh so pretty! I used it as a highlight colour as I don't mind a bit of glitter, and the glitter did have some fallout, so maybe it's not for everyone. But the other 3 shades are nice and smooth and well pigmented. I especially love the peach and dark mauvy brown colours. I wore these eyeshadows over a primer and they stayed on and didn't crease for 10+ hours.

Chanel quads cost £37 and for that you get 1.2g which does seem an awfully little amount, but I'm guessing it's because they're baked, so they're a lighter formula than the US version. All in all, a very nice quad, probably not a must have, but if you don't own colours similar to these then worth checking out.
