NOTD: Bourjois 1 Seconde Nail Polish in Rainbow Apparition

Once again I got sucked into buying another rainbow glitter nail polish. I'm like a magpie, love myself some glitter and rainbow colours. I used Bourjois Rainbow Apparition on top of 2 coats of Orly Sugar Plum (although I can't remember if I used one or two coats of Rainbow Apparition, sorry).

Taken without flash in direct sunlight

Rainbow Apparition is such a pretty polish, it has loads of holographic glitter that shimmer in all colours of the rainbow. It's supposed to be a 1 second nail polish, ie should take one second to apply due to the wide fan brush. I don't like claims like that, nothing takes one second in my opinion, but apart from that it's a lovely top coat with a nice formula and the brush is indeed very handy.

It lasted brilliantly on me, 3 days with hardly any chipping. I didn't have any chips at all in the first 24 hours, and only a couple of small ones later on. Very impressed. What annoys me though is that the bottle is so tall due to the long thin cap, it doesn't fit into my storage boxes standing up. No need for that in my opinion, 2 cm shorter would be just fine.

Bourjois 1 Seconde Nail Polishes cost £5.99 and available from Boots, Superdrug, etc. Orly Sugar Plum was a PR sample, but retails at £7.50 on BeautyBay.

Bourjois Magic Nail Polish Remover Review

I had to pick up Bourjois's Magic Nail Polish remover after all the raves I saw on other blogs. When something says magic in the name, you just feel like you have to try it and see just how magic it really is. Well I do anyway. So I tried it out, both with regular and glitter nail polish.

But firstly, let me explain what it is. You get a plastic tub with a black sponge inside soaked in nail polish remover with a hole in the top that you put your finger in, then twist and remove to find all the nail polish has disappeared. Sounds magical, doesn't it?

Well, it doesn't quite do what it promises. With regular nail polish it works rather quickly, but I still need to put my fingers in for a second or even third time to get all the nail polish off. So make that more like 5-6 seconds. Which is about how long it takes me to wipe a nail with cotton wool soaked in nail polish remover. With glitter nail polish it takes a lot longer than 1 second, but I was expecting that. It probably takes about 30 seconds per finger and I need to keep putting my finger in and twisting and pulling out and again and again. What I like though is that unlike with cotton wool, it doesn't stick into the glitter as it dissolves. You do end up with a few flecks of black sponge, but that's all.

The product is heavily scented, the scent reminds me of raspberries, so it's not unpleasant, but rather heavy. I do not like the sticky, greasy residue on my hands afterwards though, I have to wash them a few times with soap afterwards to get rid of the sticky feeling it leaves behind. At least it's not drying, although I haven't used it long enough to see if it makes my weak, peeling nails better or worse in the long run.

All in all, I'm not blown over by this product and it's certainly not magic, but I can see it being very useful if you're travelling and don't want to bother with a bottle of nail polish remover and cotton wool pads. Plus it does work quickly, and it does make glitter nail polish removal much easier. However, due to the sticky residue I will be only be using it for glitter nail polish removal in the future. I'm perfectly happy with my Sally Hansen nail polish remover and a cotton wool pad for regular nail polish.

You get 75 ml which I believe is all soaked into the pad (as the pad goes all the way down) for £4.99 which makes it a lot more expensive than my regular Sally Hansen nail polish remover. It is available from Boots, Superdrug and whereever they sell Bourjois products.

Quick and Easy Natural Look Using Urban Decay 15 Year Anniversary Palette

I decided to do a quick and easy natural look with my new Urban Decay 15 Year Anniversary Collection and this is what I ended up with. The shadows were all really lovely to use, I only one complaint: Midnight Rodeo has awful glitter fallout, so I ended up with glitter all down my face (there was none on my eyelids weirdly). It's a pretty shade though, but I wish Urban Decay stopped making these glitterbomb shadows (Midnight Cowboy and MCRA, I'm looking at you too!). I loved Vanilla as a highlighter and Flow as a lid colour, they are both very pretty shades.

To create this look I used the following:

Eyes:
Urban Decay Primer Potion in Greed (gold)
Urban Decay Flow eyeshadow (15 palette) all over lid
Urban Decay Midnight Rodeo eyeshadow (15 palette) in crease
Urban Decay Midnight 15 eyeshadow (15 palette) above crease
Urban Decay Vanilla eyeshadow (15 palette) in inner corner and on browbone to highlight
Urban Decay 24/7 eyeliner pencil in Bourbon on lower lashline and waterline
Givenchy Phenomen'eyes mascara in Black
Mac Brow Set in Show Off

Face:
Guerlain Lingerie de Peau foundation in 03 Beige Naturel
Mac Magically Cool Liquid Powder in Truth & Light
Urban Decay Score blush

Lips:
Bourjois Sweet Kiss lipstick in #47 Rose Pare

Let me know what you think! I will also show you a blue and teal look and a pink sparkly look I've created with this palette, so check back soon!

My first Bourjois lipstick! Sweet Kiss lipstick in Rose Pare

Considering the size of my lipstick stash you may be surprised to hear that this is my first ever lipstick I've purchased from Bourjois. I have a few lipglosses, eyeshadows, even a highlighter, but for some reason I never got around to buying any of their lipsticks. However, the other day I had 15 minutes to kill while waiting for a prescription, so I had a look around the cosmetics isles in Boots (as you do) and found this little beauty.

Bourjois Sweet Kiss lipstick in #47 Rose pare is a lovely slightly shimmery rosey pink coloured lipstick with a light floral scent. It's quite sheer, but goes on smoothly and evenly. It's quite moisturising, although I've only worn it for 2 hours, it's lasted pretty well. The scent is quite subtle, but it's very pleasant anyway, not like Maybelline's Colour Sensational lipsticks which really make me gag.

The packaging is a little different from usual, it has a little button on the side that you have to push downwards to get the lipstick out. Hope it doesn't break off, but it's not a complicated mechanism, so you should still be able to push the lipstick out with a needle or pen. I myself prefer traditional lipstick case design, but nothing's wrong with this either.

Bourjois Sweet Kiss lipsticks cost £7.99 and are available from Boots and Superdrug and other pharmacies and supermarkets too.
