2012 Favourites - Part 3: Face

Here's another installment of my favourite products of 2012, this time it's the face products. I will start with the more exciting ones, ie. pretty highlighters. To me one of the most used highlighters of 2012 was Guerlain Cruel Gardenia. It is just so pretty both in the compact and on my skin. Too Faced Sweet Indulgences Set Review and Swatches

I have always liked Too Faced, especially the special edition pretty palettes, but this year they've really stepped up their game. This is the second palette I've bought from Too Faced recently and this is yet another excellent value, fantastic quality palette.

In this set you get 16 eyeshadows, a full size Shadow Insurance eyeshadow primer, 2 bronzers, 2 blushes, a highlighter and a double ended eyeshadow brush/applicator. Too Faced have also thrown in 3 looks cards. The whole lot comes in a double layer tin. The top layer includes the 16 eyeshadows, the bottom layer has everyting else. The top layer is easily removable, can just be lifted out of the tin. It's not portable on its own, but at least you can hold it while applying the eyeshadows, rather than having to hold the whole tin. The bottom layer is also removable, but less easily.

First of all, the eyeshadows are great. Most of them are shimmery or metallic, but there are a few matte/satiny ones. Some of these shades have been included in pretty much every holiday palette Too Faced have done, I recognise a few of the names, but some of them seem new. I can't find this palette on the Too Faced website (I think this might be a Sephora exclusive in the US) and the Beauty Bay website doesn't have much info. Anyway, the eyeshadows included are: In the Buff, Peach Fuzz, Marshmallow, Lovey Dovey, Copper Peony, Teddy Bear, Gum Drop, Malted Milk Ball, Satin Sheets, Nice Stems!, Nice Ash, Cherry Cola, Honeymoon, Pastille, Cop a Teal, Black Sugar. You get 1.6 g of each colour, so that's a total of a whopping 25.6 g of eyeshadow.

I haven't worn them all yet (in fact I've only worn 4), but I have swatched them all (see below) and they all swatched really nicely. The shimmery ones didn't have much fallout (if any) and the matte ones weren't at all powdery. The shades I've worn (Peach Fuzz, Gum Drop, Satin Sheets and Cherry Cola) stayed on my lids all day (with Shadow Insurance underneath, of course) and didn't crease at all. I hade some glitter fallout, I think from Peach Fuzz, but it wasn't too bad and I only noticed it several hours later.

The bronzers are both pretty nice, the exclusive shade is darker, more matte and less pigmented than the Sun Bunny Light Bronzer which is just gorgeous, smooth and pigmented. Another favourite of Too Faced's is La Vie En Rose blush, I'm sure I have it in almost every palette that's come out in the past 2-3 years, but it's a pretty pink slightly shimmery blush, so i don't mind. Papa Don't Peach blush is really nice, more pigmented than La Vie En Rose and has a lovely glow. You also get a small Candlelight Glow highlighter (another palette essential).

The brush/applicator is alright, I have only tried the brush, I'm not usually a fan of applicators. It's okay, but it doesn't add any value to the palette for me. The full size Shadow Insurance primer is great and I'm happy to own another one. The tube I'm currently using is several years old, yet it's still not empty and hasn't changed consistency one bit. I have now fully converted from Urban Decay Primer Potion.

The tin is a nice idea and could be used for storing other things when you used up all the products, but quite frankly, that's never going to happen, is it? There's no mirror in the lid, and the lid itself is a bit flimsical, mine has changed shape a bit, although still closes fine.

The palette costs £42 which might sound a bit much for some, but according to Beauty Bay it has an actual value of £133. Sephora says $381 value (approx. £236). Either way, it's a great deal. The primer costs £16.50 and a single 1.7 g eyeshadow costs £15, so that adds up to a £241.50 value alone. I think even Sephora has underestimated the value!

Topshop Cheek Duo in Desert Sun Review and Swatches

I have a confession to make: I don't get Topshop. Please don't hit me! I don't know if it's my age or that fact that I'm ridiculously not fashionable, but I have not once managed to find any clothes in Topshop that I liked. Make up however, is a different story. I'm a sucker for Topshop make up especially their nail polishes, but I have been known to pick up other products like their eyeshadow crayons and other bits and bobs. So when I last wondered into Topshop this little beauty caught my eye.

Topshop Cheek Duo is basically a 2 in 1 baked products with a blush and bronzer in one compact. Desert Sun is the peachy version, there is another shade (Break of Day) which has a pink blush instead of a peach one. Actually I'd say the blush in Desert Sun is more a pinky coral than peach. It's a satin finish, whereas the bronzer, a little coppery brown shade, is actually quite shimmery. I'd prefer it the other way round to be honest, the bronzer would be more suitable for contouring. The blush is quite powdery and had to be layered to show up on me and it faded away quickly. The bronzer is more pigmented and longer lasting and not as powdery either. The two products together give a nice sunkissed glow to my cheeks. I think on darker skintones the blush would look quite ashy, but the bronzer would make a lovely highlighter.

The compact is an off-white colour matte finish plastic. It seriously lacks a mirror in the lid, I think at this price they really should put one in. It's not overly expensive, it costs £12.50 for 6.5 g, so still significantly cheaper than Mac blushes and bronzers, but equally I don't think the quality is there. I like it, but don't love it.

Bobbi Brown Bronzer/Blush Duo Bahama Brown/Pink Peony Review and Swatches

Now this is one confusing product. I'm pretty sure I'm not alone when I see the words bronzer and blush, I think brown and pink. But when it comes to this duo, you have to reverse that. The blush is brown, the bronzer is pink. Say what?

This bronzer/blush duo contains Bahama Brown Shimmer Blush and Pink Peony Illuminating Bronzing Powder. For some reason Bobbi has many pinky shades of the Illuminating Bronzing Powder available, including Antigua and Maui. I couldn't see myself using these as all over bronzers, but they make very nice blushes.

I actually have Pink Peony in a full size compact, it came out with a set I think, but I wanted to try Bahama Brown and this also makes an easy compact to travel with. I found this version a bit harder, less easy to get a good pigmentation out of. It still works fine, but my other one is softer. It is a very pretty corally pink colour. You can see me wearing it in this look. Bahama Brown Shimmer Blush is a shimmery brown shade (unsurprisingly), it can be used for conturing with Pink Peony on the cheeks. It's too shimmery to be used as bronzer all over thoough, but also makes a nice blush too. Not too dark or muddy for my medium light complexion.

You get 9.6 g of product for £27 which is a pretty good deal as 4.8 g of each product would be £21.60 and £14.40 respectively which adds up to £36. Plus Pink Peony isn't available otherwise (except on eBay) and Bahama Brown doesn't seem to be on either website I've looked, so I guess it's easiest to buy the two together. Available from Bobbi Brown's website, Debenhams, House of Fraser and other department stores.

Guerlain Terracotta Light Sheer Bronzing Powder 04 Sun Blondes Review and Swatches

You are probably starting to think that I'm completely mad for buying so many bronzers, but I really got sucked into Guerlain this summer and ended up buying this gorgeous Terracotta Light Sheer Bronzing Powder in Sun Blondes as well as the other two bronzers I've already shown you (not to mention the ones from Dior and Chanel). I wasn't going to get this because I already have two similar ones (Blondes and Blondes Halees), but when the sales assitant showed it to me, I just couldn't say no. (This is the last bronzer I'm buying this year though, I promise.)

I'm not entirely sure if this shade and Sun Brunettes are limited edition for the summer or not, but they are still widely available, so you can pick them up if you so wish. The biggest difference between Sun Blondes and the original Blondes shade is that Sun Blondes is quite a bit pinker. It is also darker, so more suitable for the summer. Blondes Halees (limited edition summer shade from 2 years ago) is very similar to Sun Blondes, but it's a bit less pink and maybe a bit darker.

The compacts are practically the same dark brown plastic compacts with mirror in the lid. You get 10 g, so it's a nice size and they cost £33.50. (Obviously Blondes Halees isn't available anymore, but you can buy Blondes which is part of the permanent Terracotta collection.)

Did I need Sun Blondes? No, not really. If I had had Blondes Halees with me at the time, I probably wouldn't have got it as they really are very similar. If you missed out on Blondes Halees a couple of years ago, then Sun Blondes is a very good alternative. It gives my cheeks a pinky brown tint, I look like I've just caught the sun slightly. It's a bit shimmery, so not really an all over bronzing powder, but is lovely as a pink/bronzy blush. I adore its scent as well, which is hard to explain, but it's the usual Guerlain Terracotta scent (not parma violet like the Meteorites).

Guerlain Terra Soleia Tan Enhancing Bronzer

You may remember my post about the upcoming Guerlain fall collection and at the end of the post there was a gorgeous golden bronzer, Terra Soleia. Although the fall collection isn't out until August, Terra Soleia is already available. I don't know if it's out in the UK yet, I ordered mine from Sephora (in France). *Edit: I've just seen this for sale in House of Fraser!

I don't have a full review for you because I haven't actually used it yet, I only swatched it. The gold shimmer on top is an overspray, and I didn't want to ruin the bronzer by removing all the overspray, so I only swatched a small area. The powder below the gold overspray seemed to be bronze with a gold tinge (could still be the overspray). It is very pretty.

The powder is absolutely humongous, you get 27 g which is about 3 times the size of an average face powder. It comes in a brown seethrough compact, the lid has Terracotta written on it in big gold letters, and you can see the pattern of the powder through it. As a result there is no mirror in the lid which is a bit strange, but I guess then you couldn't see the lovely pattern through the lid. I'd prefer to have a mirror, although to be fair, I don't see myself carrying it around as the size of the compact is absolutely massive.

I don't have a price in GBP for this, but mine cost 54.50 euros (approx. £44) from Sephora. The do have a 20% off code going (SOLEIL20) right now, so if you wanted it, this could be yours for 43.60 euros. They also deliver to the UK for 15.90 euros (approx. £13). I will let you know if I see this in the UK. For now, I'll leave you with some pictures to drool over.

My Chanel Summer Collection Haul - Sable Rose Bronzing Powder and Calypso Glossimer

A rather small haul from Chanel summer, I only picked up one glossimer and one bronzer. I bought Calypso glossimer, a very bright orangey coral lipgloss with gold shimmers and Sable Rose bronzing powder.

First up, the bronzer. It is made up of 7 different coloured strips including some pinky purple ones which was why I chose Sable Rose. I apologise but I haven't actually swatched it yet, it's very pretty and as I have many bronzers on the go, I thought I'd save it for now. I have both from last year and have hardly made a dent in those yet. This one is also rather huge at 15 g, so it should last a long time.

Calypso glossimer is a bright orangey coral lipgloss with lots of golden shimmer. It is definitely more orange than Guerlain Porto Fino Terracotta gloss, but it also has a bit of a pink tinge to it. It's very pretty and summery. Unlike a lot of glossimer it is very nicely pigmented (some shades are mostly just shimmer) and lasts quite well on the lips. It isn't sticky at all, but due to the amount of shimmer it isn't smooth either, the shimmer makes is quite gritty in fact. This doesn't bother me too much, but if you prefer smooth glosses, that is something to consider. You get 5.5 g which is quite a lot (although it's hard to say how many ml that is).

The bronzing powders cost £34 and the glossimers cost £21. I believe most of the collection is still available, but obviously is limited edition, so if you want to buy anything, don't hesitate.

My Guerlain Summer Collection Haul Part 2 - Terra Azzurra Bronzing Powder and Blush

Next up in my Guerlain haul post series is the limited edition bronzing powder and blush, Terra Azzurra.It is made up of 4 colours, approximately half of it is a nice warm shimmerless bronzer and the other half is made up of 3 strips: coral, pink and a light pinky beige highlighter. It isn't possible to pick up the smaller strips individually, so it's best to mix the three with your brush, but due to the size of the compact it is perfectly possible to use the blush part individually and also the bronzer. The blush strips are slightly shimmery, but not glittery.

The powder comes in the same kind of compact as last year's Terra Inca bronzer, it's a domed round wooden compact with a lid that's held on by 3 magnets, so it comes off completely. The compact comes in a gorgeous cloth pouch that is the same design as the Meteorites brush's pouch. The inside of the outer cardboard box also has the same design. The powder is slightly heavier than last year's Terra Inca at 16 g, and it retails for £51 (ouch!). I picked mine up in the Duty Free at Gatwick for £44 which is a slightly better price.

The bronzer isn't overly pigmented, so it doesn't require very light handed application for the pale ones amoung us, however it can be built up for a darker colour. The blush is quite pigmented, especially the coral shade, so you need to be more careful with it. You can also mix up all 4 shades for a bronzy coral-pink blush.

It's a nice product, but at this price I'm not sure it's a must have. It was for me because I'm a collector as well as user of Guerlain, but if you think it's too expensive for you, I'm sure you can find other alternatives. I think last year's Blush G is similar to the blush part, but I'm not a bronzer person, so no idea about dupes for the bronzer powder. The packaging is gorgeous though and if you like limited edition products with pretty packaging, then go for it!

Christian Dior Nude Tan Healthy Glow Enhancing Powder 01 Aurora Review and Swatches

When I first saw pictures of the Dior summer collection, this powder was on top of my wishlist. I mean just look at it, how could it not be? I'm generally not a massive bronzer fan, but pretty, shimmery bronzers always attract me.

This one is called Healthy Glow Enhancing Powder, and I guess the glow mostly comes from the very fine shimmer. I think it's okay to be used all over the face as the shimmer isn't that obvious, but I've been using it mostly on my cheeks, nose and hairline only. I got Aurora which is the lightest shade, because I'm quite pale at the moment, but I have also bought Sunlight, the second lightest shade for the summer. The powder is made up of 4 colours effectively, there are 2 base colours and 2 colours running through the raised NUDE writing. It's a nice peachy pinky colour on me, I normally just use it instead of a blush and it looks really natural and flattering.

You get 10 g and the powder is enclosed ina gorgeous shiny silver compact. You also get a small kabuki brush with it, but I feel it picks up a bit too much product in one go, so I prefer using a fluffier brush with the powder. The brush is ever so cute though. I think the compact may be refillable because there is a small "poke" hole at the bottom, so you can push the powder up, but I haven't tried it myself. The powder costs £37 and is available now online and at counters.

Estee Lauder Pure Color Illuminating Powder Gelee Shimmering Sands Review and Swatches

Estee Lauder once again has a lovely summer collection and there were two things in particular that really interested me when I saw the promo pictures, the 5 colour Gelee Powder eyeshadow palette (review to come soon) and the Pure Color Illuminating Powder Gelee in Shimmering Sands.

This is the third Illuminating Powder Gelee hybrid that Estee Lauder has come out with in a short space of time. The formula is very similar to Mac's Extra Dimension Skinfinishes, very smooth and creamy with high frosty shine (although less frosty than the Mac skinfinishes). Colourwise this shade is different from all 3 Mac skinfinishes, it's darker and redder than Superb, but lighter and less orange than Glorify. I think this shade will look good on darker skintones or on me once I have a tan (which is not looking too likely judging by how the weather's been lately), but it is possibly to pull it off when you're pale if you use a very light hand (apply with a brush rather than the sponge applicator) and I think it works pretty well as a contour shade too.

The powder costs £28 and you get 4.5 g which actually seems very little (half of the Mac skinfinishes), but the compact is the same as the regular Estee Lauder blush compact so I think the powder gelee formula must be lighter than a regular powder. I don't think I will run out of this anytime soon ever as you only need a tiny bit, so the actual amount of product doesn't bother me too much. This is a limited edition product and these gelee powders sell out very quickly, so get yours while you can. Available at Debenhams, House of Fraser, Boots and other retailers with Estee Lauder counters and online from all of the above plus the Estee Lauder website.

My Purchases From Chanel Las Vegas Collection

When I first saw pictures of the Chanel Las Vegas collection I fell in love with the Lucky Stars powder and was very disheartened to find that it retailed for $95 in the US and seemed to be a Las Vegas boutique exclusive. Luckily it came to Selfridges and the best part is, it cost quite a bit less than $95. (I think I paid £48 which is still A LOT, but not $95 - that would've been more like £57, eek!) So I picked it up on a recent trip to London and also the gold Rouge Coco Shine (called Brillant) which I initially wasn't even planning on buying. And here they are:

Being me, I haven't actually swatched either of them, so I'm afraid all I have is some more droolworthy product pictures. But really, just how pretty is that powder?! So happy drooling and let me know if you have picked up anything from this collection at all?

Want It: Guerlain Sun In The City Terracotta Collection Summer 2012

Here's another collection to get excited about! As well as their upcoming summer collection Terra Azzurra, Guerlain is also releasing their usual Terracotta collection. Once again an absolutely stunning promo picture with the ever so gorgeous Natalia Vodianova.

The star product of the collection is the Golden Glimmer Powder (£43). A face and body powder with creamy texture and metallic gold shimmer with a mother-of-pearl concentrate (75%). Guerlain says, "Adds shimmer to any tan with its precious metal glints like a skin-enhancing top coat." Probably not the best if you're not a fan of shimmer, but since I am, I will definitely be getting this one!

Accessorize Baked Bronzer Duo in Laguna

I promised you in my Accessorize haul video that I would show you swatches of all the new baked products I've purchased the other day. First up is the new baked bronzer duo in Laguna. This is a new type of product in the Accessorize range, they appear to have replaced the mineralize skinfinish type bronzers/highlighters. They come in 4 shades, but sadly I can't rell you the other shade names because they're not up on the Accessorize website yet. I only bought Laguna because the other looked either too dark or too light for me.

Laguna is a peachy bronze colour with a champagne colour highlighter that has gold and peachy bronze veining inside. The powder is very finely milled, it has some sheen and a bit of shimmer to it, but no glitter. It's actually a rather sheer colour, but buildable, so you don't go too over the top with it with any luck. The compact is 12.5 gram, so quite a bit bigger than a Mac Mineralize Skinfinish, and retails for £6. Available from Superdrug and hopefully soon from Accessorize. I personally really like it, partly because it's very pretty to look at (mineralize powders and eyeshadows are my weaknesses) and partly because it's a nice product to wear. I also love the butterflies on the lid of the compact, so pretty.

WANT IT! Guerlain Terracotta Inca Collection 2011

I've just seen these promo pictures of Guerlain's upcoming summer collection and just had to share them with you as they are so pretty! Natalia Vodianova, as always, is gorgeous and I'm loving the eyeshadows and would love to know what lipcolour she's wearing.

I don't have any info on release dates or prices, but I know that I will be buying a few pieces from this collection for sure! Anything takes your fancy? Let me know in the comments!

Mac To The Beach haul part 2

I'm sorry this is late, but I've been very busy with family life and never got around to post these pictures. I'm really struggling to find time to post, but will keep trying. I have taken photos of so many things and composed posts in my head over the last weeks. :) So last Thursday I went back to my local Mac counter to check out the To The Beach collection in person having already ordered some things from it unseen. I came away with 4 more items including a cream bronzer, an eyeshadow, a lipstick and a lipglass. I bought Beach Bronze cream bronzer which is a lovely fairly light slightly shimmery cream to powder bronzer. I'm not a bronzer person and not too sure why I got it, but it is lovely and works very well on pale people like me. :) The second thing I got is Firecracker eyeshadow. I already own Shimmermoss and have a dark green shade similar to Humid (don't remember its name, it came out in Love That Look last year), but Firecracker is such a pretty shade, I had to get it. I also got Funbathing lipstick and Flurry of Fun lipglass. Funbathing looks brown in the tube, but it's an interesting reddish purple on me, very pretty. Flurry of Fun has loads of greenish sparkles in it, it's absolutely beautiful. And that completes my haul from this collection, I'm happy with everything I got and there's nothing else I want. The Body Shop Nomadic Goddess Collection Haul

The new summer collection has landed in The Body Shop stores and I've already purchased a few things, and here they are. I bought all 3 baked eyeshadow duos and one of the baked bronzing powders.

Baked eyeshadows and powders are my weakness, I have a huge collection of Mac mineralize eyeshadows and skinfinishes, and when I see anything similar to them, I always get them. The Body Shop released similar eyeshadows and blushes last summer too, then they had 3 colours mixed in the pan (like Mac's Too Fabulous collection with the two colour blushes). This time you get one solid shade and a smaller "crescent" shaped section with a mixture of shades. The bronzing powder (I purchased Warm Glow) has marbelized effect, it's a lovely shade of light brown, beige and pink. It's not even a bronzing powder as such, although it adds some colour, it's more of a shimmery highlighter on me and I'm actually quite pale. The other shade (Golden Glow) was darker, but also more shimmery, so I didn't like that one. Warm Glow is actually a very good name, because that's pretty much what it gives you, a warm glow on your skin.
