Finished! The December edition

I have seen this on other blogs and thought it's such a great idea to review products that I've finished over the course of the month, however, I'd never got round to it (I did a Hitting Pan post a while ago, but that's as far as it got.) As I have such a big stash, it's not very often that I use up anything, so it's pretty unusual that I've actually managed to finish 4 products pretty much at the same time. So I thought I'd take the opportunity to show you the products I've finished, tell you how I liked them and whether I'll be repurchasing them. I will try to make this into a regular feature on the blog, but we'll see how it goes since I don't often finish products.

First up it's my favourite face primer, Meteorites Perles Light Diffusing Perfecting Primer by Guerlain. A very light gorgeously scented (parma violets, mmm!) slightly shimmery quite runny liquid that gives a nice sheen to your face while mattefying it (I know, it sounds odd, but it works) and helping your make up last through the day. It's expensive at £40 per 30 ml, but you don't need a lot, one press of the pump dispenses enough for your whole face. It's very interesting, you have loads of little balls filled with primer and the pump sucks up one or two balls and squeezes them out onto your finger. The outer "shell" is so soft it just disintegrates, so you get this gorgeous smooth wonderfully light shine controlling illuminating primer. Do you get the impression that I love this stuff?

Here is a picture of how it looks when full. The bottle is heavy glass, it feels luxurious just as much as the primer inside does. Will I be repurchasing it? Of course. For now I have 2 back ups, so I'm okay, but I'm always looking for good bargains on this, so might stock up again soon.

Find out what other products I've finished after the jump!

Next up is another Guerlain product: Issima Midnight Secret Late Night Recovery Treatment. According to Guerlain it's "sleep in a bottle". They say: "The essential skin-saving step for short or disrupted nights.
Apply a few drops of this "sleep elixir" when you go to bed and traces of fatigue seem to miraculously disappear and your complexion looks radiant." It costs £58 for 30 ml, so it's definitely not cheap. I'm not too sure about this one. It's really lovely to apply, feels very luxurious, light and has a lovely scent, but I'm really not too sure about the miracolous disappearance of fatigue and radiant complexion. I often go to bed around midnight, so use it quite regularly, I also have young children, so am often woken up in the night too, so you'd think I'm the ideal candidate for this, but sadly I don't think it works that well for me. It's lovely and a nice alternative to night cream, very lightweight and it has a ton of ingredients that are very good for your skin, but I wouldn't call it a miracle. For now, I have a back up (what can I say, I am an impulse buyer), but am not sure whether or not I'll be repurchasing it once that runs out too.

Okay, now lets move onto the cheaper products I've finished. One of them is Avon MagiX Face Perfector face primer. Firstly, apologies about the picture, I couldn't find one of my back ups, so had to take picture of my almost empty squeezed to death tube with the smudged cap. This one is a white gel that comes in a squeezy tube and has a powdery feel about it when you apply it to your face (it turns invisible on your face with a slight matte effect). It's supposed to reduce shine and smoothe pores and fine lines. It's not bad, but doesn't work as well for as the Guerlain one, my face does get shiny on my forehead even with this on (not so much in the winter, but definitely when it's warmer). It has a nice fresh scent and also has SPF20 which the Guerlain one doesn't have, and is only £10 for 30 ml, but I think I will not repurchase this, instead try out other primers that might work better for me.

Last one is by 17 (Boots' own brand) called Shine Control Loose Powder. It's a finely milled loose powder to apply on top of your foundation to help set your make up and control shine. To be honest, I didn't like this. It wasn't fine enough for me, yet it was too powdery (if that makes sense), quite chalky and it didn't do the best job of mattifying either. It's cheap at £5.49 for 15 grams, but I'd rather spend more money and get better products. That said, I love 17 eyeshadows and mascaras, so cheap isn't always bad, but in my case this just didn't work out. So you won't be surprised to learn that I won't be repurchasing this.

So there you go.These are all the products I have finished lately. I'm running low on a few more, so might be able to do another post in January. In the meantime, let me know if you've tried any of these products and what you thought about them, plus what products you have run out of lately?

  1. Hi,

I have a question about the Guerlain primer. How did you get the last bit of product out of the bottom of the bottle? I've hit mostly bottom on one of mine but couldn't get to it since the cap is airtight.

BTW love your cache posts. Now that's a beauty collector!

  2. Thank you! :)

I didn't manage to get all of it out, I think there were about 3 balls left in the bottle, but yes, it was pretty hard. I shook it and pumped and shook it and pumped for ages to get most of it out. Tried to remove the cap too, but didn't want to break the bottle. Had the same problem with the Midnight Secret too, there was still a little bit left but I just couldn't get it all out. :(

  3. Do you find that foundation goes nicely on top of the guerlain primer? I find that with some primers your pores become emphasised when you put foundation on top. Thanks, Baby

  4. Oh yes, definitely, it's a great primer, I can only recommend it. Certainly doesn't emphasise your pores at all. I don't have huge pores, but some are noticeable without primer and foundation for sure.

  6. As you can see, I don't manage to post very often, I would love to do more, but unfortunately my days are only 24h long as well. ;)

  7. Anitacska, would you recommend the Guerlain base for dry skin? or more for combination?

  8. I don't have dry skin, but I think it would most probably suit it as it's not drying at all.
