Is this really necessary?

I ordered these from Debenhams the other day:

And they arrived in these:

I am all in favour of receiving my order in one piece, but surely a small padded envelope and some bubble wrap would have done a sufficient job? Instead they wrapped them in one of the envelopes, then put them in the other envelope and then into the plastic bag. In this day and age when we're all trying to do our bits for the environment, do retailers need to be this wasteful? Lucky I was in as well, because the postman couldn't fit the massive package through my postbox, so if I'd missed him, I would've had to drive to the post office to pick it up, so I would've wasted some petrol as well.

Really not impressed. I used to think Mac was wasteful sending my 3-4 pieces in giant black boxes padded with loads of black paper, but I have to say, Debenhams has done even worse. Also makes me wonder how much this is costing them, since it was free delivery as well.

Which stores/companies have you come across as being wasteful in their packaging methods? Let me know in the comments!

  1. the same thing happened to me from debenhams the other day, one blusher in an envelop, in a bag. The envelope will be getting recycled to send ebay things though so it's not too bad

  2. I received a MAC order from Selfridges that had been put into an oversized yellow envelope, padded with a little bubble wrap. 2/3 items were missing because the packaging was so flimsy that it ripped open in transit.

They refunded me, & I was told that it happens a lot with Royal Mail. I'm assuming that's one of the reasons why Debenhams are being extra precautious?

    Maybe!

  3. @Sarah Yeah, I will reuse the envelopes, but still, I don't see why you need 2 huge ones as well as the plastic bag. :S

@25FLONDON I agree, the Royal Mail is crap, so you need to be cautious, but the size of the package was so ridiculous, you could've fit the entire Peacocky collection it it and some more stuff! :D
